I’ve been a fan of IBM’s Redbooks for, I don’t , maybe as long as I can remember having a need for up-to-date information.  That’s long enough to remember when the Redbooks still actually had Red covers. In fact, I’ve been a Redbook fan long enough to remember what a thrill it was when my IBM SE brought them to me back when I was a customer.  I always thought I was special because he always brought me the latest Redbooks.  Those books were a bigger deal than being taken out to lunch.

As you all know, DB2 for z/OS Version 8 was discontinued (went out of service) last year way back in April 2012.   If you are still using DB2 V8 now is the time to start gathering up product documentation making sure that what you have is the latest and greatest.

The December 2012 product publication updates are now available.  It looks like the DB2 Publication’s Team managed to get all of the most popular DB2 product publications (or at least the most popular in my opinion) updated just in time for the Holidays, just days before Christmas.  The “almost new” tradition continues with the pub folk publishing documentation updates on an monthly bases…..

November has been a quiet month for publication updates.  So for this month only two have been updated in DB2 10 and two for DB2 9.

DB2 10 updates:

DB2 10 for z/OS Program Directory – GI10-8829-04  (403 KB PDF file) pdf (i1088294.pdf)

DB2 10 for z/OS VUE Program Directory – GI10-8839-04  (408 KB PDF file) pdf (i1088394.pdf)

DB2 9 updates:

DB2 9 for z/OS Program Directory – GI10-8737-06  (175 KB PDF file) pdf (i1087376.pdf)

DB2 9 for z/OS VUE Program Directory – GI10-8779-06  (181 KB PDF file) pdf (i1087796.pdf)

All of the product documentation is available for download in PDF format from the DB2 product library web site .  Check this site for updates before making major decision when using the manuals.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, the best place to get hold of the most up to date information about DB2 for z/OS, regardless of the release, will almost always be the Information Center on the web  .

Today’s post is not going to be that long because there were not that many manuals updated this month.  In fact, there was only one DB2 10 pub updated and one DB2 9 pub updated; it also happened to be the same titled publication.

The “Managing Security” pub for both DB2 10 and DB2 9 is the one that was updated.

SC19-3496-02 (2.6 MB PDF file pdf) is the DB2 10 flavor; downloaded as PDF file dsnmsm02.pdf

SC19-3495-02 (2.4 MB PDF file pdf) is the DB2 9 version of the publication; downloaded as PDF file dsnmsk12.pdf

It looks like publication updates may be coming closer to the end of the month now.  August is the 2nd month (or is it the third) month in a row that the updates have appeared at the very end of the month or the during the first few days of the following month.  However, they did arrive and that’s what is really important.  So the “new” tradition continues with the pub folk publishing documentation updates on an almost monthly bases…..  Continue reading »
