Two more Redbooks of particular interest to me have been added to the ever growing list of Redbooks now available in EPUB format. This is, for me at least, great news. I like having my Redbooks listed in iBook on my iPad in a format that is just a little easier to work with than the traditional PDF format…….
For DB2, the Redbook team has added “DB2 for z/OS and List Prefetch Optimizer” , a Redbook I have been referencing quite a bit of late. If you’re not familiar with this Redbook Redpaper yet, it is authored by IBM DB2 Silicon Valley Lab Performance expert Jeff Berger and discusses, and I quote,
“In this IBM Redpaper publication, we show DB2 10 for z/OS performance measurements using DS8000 R6.2 and R6.3 with DS8800 and solid-state drives. The measurements highlight both the reduction gained in synchronous I/O and the reduced dependency on data reorganization. This combination offers the opportunity for better performance to critical SQL applications that access large fragments of disorganized data.”

This is definitely one you want, regardless of whether you download it in EPUB or traditional PDF format.
The second publication that has recently been made available in EPUB format, and again one that I have used quite a bit,is “Batch Modernization on z/OS” . Quoting the Redbook page’s description,
“Many different technologies are available in a batch environment on z/OS systems. This book demonstrates these technologies and shows how the z/OS system offers a sophisticated environment for batch. In this practical book, we discuss a variety of themes that are of importance for batch workloads on z/OS systems and offer examples that you can try on your own system.”

This book is not only an excellent z/OS resource, one of the authors is a friend of mine and someone I consider an expert in z/OS performance.
Now there have been other Redbooks recently added to the list of publications in EPUB format like “ABCs of z/OS System Programming Volume 8”, “IBM System z Qualified WDM: Adva FSP 3000 Release Level 9.3.3” and “IBM System z Qualified WDM: Ciena 5200 and 5100 Release 11.11 and 11.12”. Although I am focusing on the pubs that I use, I did want you to know that there are many pubs in EPUB format.
A tip for all of you with an iPad interested in getting Redbooks in EPUB format, … just bring up this blog post in your iPad’s browser and click on the link I have labeled a “direct link”. When the DOWNLOAD begins, your iPad will prompt you to add it directly to iBooks so it’s conveniently located on your iBook bookshelf forever.
Finally, here’s a link to my original post describing some other Redbooks that are now available in EPUB format that might also be of interest to you…
