Buffer pools, zIIP, and DB2 10 for z/OS

Buffer pool prefetch currently runs under an SRB… DB2 10 plans to move that work so it runs under an enclave SRB. Enclave SRB work is System z Integrated Information Processor (aka: zIIP) eligible. Conclusion: zIIP redirected buffer pool prefetch!!!

Wait until DB2 10 is actually generally available (GA) to find out what this all means and how much of this work could be re-directed to zIIPs.

A couple other things that could be of interest once DB2 10 goes GA? How about SMF compression and the use of the System z10 1 MB page size.

I can’t help repeating myself…

DB2 10 for z/OS is going to be just so cool…
