Way back on March 16, 2011 an APAR closed that impacted how many WLM environment address spaces WLM would choose to start or leave started.  traditionally WLM will decide when to start and when to stop one of its environment address spaces.   Sometimes starting an address space could be expensive.  And we all know that if additional address spaces need to be started, it will happen at the most inopportune time…… Continue reading »

Even though something may be working as designed doesn’t necessarily mean it’s working as expected.  This always seems to happen around performance stuff to me.   In my experience, something that has unexpected performance can be far worse than something that has bad performance.  Often, bad performance can be explained and possibly even corrected.   However, when stuff happens out of the blue and catches you completely off guard, these can be the problems that can turn into real challenges to resolve…… Continue reading »

I know, you didn’t even know Workload Manager (WLM) managed buffer pools left, or possibly you didn’t know about this particular function at all. It wasn’t discussed all that much. Although announced with DB2 9 back in March 2007, it wasn’t quite ready for prime time like the rest of DB2 9 at announcement time.
